Introduction
A Combined Medical Services Examination is conducted by UPSC for recruitment to the following services:

  • Railways
  • Ordnance Factories Health Service

The candidates are allowed to apply for more than one services mentioned above in order of their preference without any additional examination fee.

Remarks
Candidates appearing at the final MBBS Examination also eligible to compete subject to certain conditions. Selected candidates will be appointed only after they have completed compulsory rotating internship.

Introduction
For those young and courageous individuals who nurture a patriotic sentiment, who are willing to take on any kind of challenges and dedicate their lives to defending the country and its people, the Common Defence Service Test is the path to join the nation's Defence forces.

Combined Defence Service exam is conducted by UPSC twice every year for recruitment to office cadre of the Army, Navy and Air force. CDS exam is conducted generally in the months of May and October.

Candidates qualifying the written test are interviewed by the Service Selection Board and if finally selected, depending upon the choice given by the candidates and their merit list ranking, are sent to one of the following institutes for orientation training: -
(a) Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun
(b) Naval Academy, Goa
(c) Air Force Academy, Begumpet, Hyderabad
(d) Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai

Those joining the first three institutes get permanent commission, however cadets passing out of OTA get short service commission. Applicants are required to mention their preferences while filling up the application forms.

National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2007
An Examination will be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on 22nd April, 2007, for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 115th Course and Naval Academy for the 37th 10+2 (Executive Branch) course commencing from January, 2008. The approximate number of vacancies to be filled on the results of this examination will be 335 (195 for the Army, 39 for Navy, 66 for the Air Force and 35 for the Executive Branch of Naval Academy).

Vacancies are provisional and may be changed depending on the availability of training capacity of National Defence Academy.

Admission will be made on the results of the written examination to be conducted by the Commission followed by intelligence and personality test by the Services Selection Board of candidates who qualify in the written examination.

Educational Qualifications :

  • For Army wing of National Defence Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
  • For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at the Naval Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equilvalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent exmination can also apply for this examination.

Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status : Only unmarried male candidates who must have attained the age of 16 1/2 years and must not have attained the age of 19 years on the 1st January, 2008 i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1989 and not later than 1st July, 1991 are eligible.

Note :- Candidates should note that age limits shall be reckoned as on 1st January, 2008.

Physical Standards : Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination.

A candidate who has resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academics of Armed Forces is not eligible to apply.

Eligibility

(a) Nationality :

A candidate must either be :

i. a citizen of India, or
ii. a subject of Bhutan, or
iii. a subject of Nepal, or
iv. Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
v. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

(b) Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status :

A candidate must be an unmarried male and have attained the age of 16 1/2 years and must not have attained the age 19 years on the 1st January or 1st of July of the year succeeding the year of examination.
Candidates must not marry until they complete their full training. A candidate who marries subsequent to the date of his application, though successful will not be selected for training.
A candidate who marries during training shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the Government.

(c) Educational Qualifications :

For Army wing of National Defence Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at the Naval Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equilvalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply.

(d) Physical Standards : Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination as per guidelines given :

Candidates are advised to rectify minor defects/ailments in order to speed up finalisation of medical examination conducted at the Military Hospital after being recommended at the SSB. The undermentioned ailments are considered, common minor ailments :

Wax (Ears), Deviated Nasal Septum, Hydrocele/Phimosis, Overweight/Underweight, Under sized Chest, Piles, Gynaecomastia, Tonsillitis, Varicocele

A candidate recommended by the Services Selection Board will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers. Only those candidates will be admitted to the academy who are declared fit by the Medical Board. The proceedings of the Medical Board are confidential and will not be divulged to anyone. However the candidates declared unfit will be intimated by the President of the Medical Board and the procedure for request for an Appeal Medical Board will also be intimated to the candidate.

Candidates declared unfit during Appeal Medical Board will be intimated about the provision of Review Medical Board.

(a) The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any disease/disability which is likely in interfere with the efficient performance of military duties.

(b) There should be no evidence of weak constitution, bodily defects or under weight. The candidate should not be overweight or obese.

(c) The minimum acceptable height is 157.5 cms. (162.5 cms for Air Force) F

A ± 10% (A ± 6 Kg for Navy) departure from the average weight given in the table 1 above is to be considered within normal limit. However, in individuals with heavy bones and broad build as well as individuals with thin but otherwise healthy this may be relaxed to some extent on merit.

Note 1 : Height relaxable upto 2.5 cm (5 cm. for Navy) may be allowed where the Medical Board certifies that the candidate is likely to grow and come up to the required standard on completion of his training.

Note 2 : To meet special requirement as a pilot in the Air Force the acceptable measurements of leg length, thigh length and sitting height will be as under :–

On account of lower age of NDA candidates, a margin of upto 5.0 cm. in height, 2.5 cm. in leg length (minimum) and 1.0 cm. sitting height (minimum) may be given provided it is certified by the Medical Board that the candidate is likely to grow and come upto the required standard on completion of his training in NDA.

Chest should be well developed. Fully expanded chest should not be less than 81 cms. The minimum range of expansion after full inspiration should be 5 cms. The measurement will be taken with a tape so adjusted that its lower edge should touch the nipple in front and the upper part of the tape should touch the lower angle of the shoulder blades behind. X-Ray of the chest is compulsory and will be taken to rule out any disease of the chest.

There should be no disease of bones and joints of the body. X-ray of spine of candidates will not be carried out as a routine except for Air Force. It will, however, be done on the advice of surgical specialist wherever clinically indicated. Minor congenital defects which are not likely to interfere in the performance of military duties may be acceptable on merit..

Application Form :

Common application form can be purchased from the designated Head post Offices/Post Offices throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 20/-

The duly filled in application form and the acknowledgement card should then be mailed in the special envelope supplied with the Information Brochure. The candidate should also write the name of examination viz. “National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination-(I), 2007” on the envelope before dispatching it to “Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069”. Candidates should mention their Tele/Fax Nos.

Candidates serving in the Armed Forces must submit their application through their Commanding Officer who will forward it to the Commission indicating in the forwarding letter the name of the applicant and his application form number (8 digit).

The applications of Sailors (including boys and artificers apprentices) of the Indian Navy will be entertained only if these have been duly recommended by their Commanding Officer.

Cadets of Rastriya Indian Military College (previously known as Sainik School, Dehra Dun), Students of Military Schools (formerly known as King George’s Schools) and Sainik Schools run by Sainik Schools Society should submit their applications through Principal of College/School concerned who will forward it to the Commission indicating in the forwarding letter the name of the applicant and his application form Number (8 digit). The forwarding letter should not be tagged or pinned with the application form.

Selection :

Selection procedure is based on written examination followed by Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test.

All applications must reach the "Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi - 110069" either by hand or by Post/Speed Post or by Courier, on or before the 13th November, 2006.

Introduction

Direct Recruitment to the Special Class Railway Apprentices' is made through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on the basis of the Annual Competitive Examinations. Recruitment to the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) and the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) is done on the basis of the result of the Civil Services Examination (The Indian Administrative service examination) and that to the Indian Railway services of Engineers (IRSE), Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) and Indian Railway Services Stores (IRSS) is made on the basis of the Combined Engineering Service Examination.
Recruitment of Clerks, Assistant Station masters, Ticket Collectors, train Collectors and other vacancies is also done through direct recruitment by the Railway Recruitment Boards in different states. Depending upon the vacancies that arise, these boards call out for exams for different posts. These Boards are located at 19 centres in Allahabad (www.rrbald.nic.in), Ahmedabad, Ajmer( www.rrbajmer.org), Chandigarh, Jammu, Gorakhpur, Patna (www.rrbpatna.org) , Guwahati, Calcutta, Bhubaneswar( www.rrbbbs.org), Chennai (www.rrbchennai.net), Trivandrum, Bangalore, Secunderabad (www.rrbsc.org), Mumbai, Bhopal , Malda, Ranchi etc. The Boards advertise the vacancies through newspapers and the Employment News and conduct both written examinations and interviews. Recruitment is made in the lowest grades to these categories and prescribed qualification is generally matriculation. For some posts like Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Asstt. Station Master, Clerk Grade I, guards etc., prescribed qualification is a degree from a recognised University.

For Recruitment to the Indian Railway Service Mechanical Department, there is a dual method, one is by Combined Engineering Service Examination and the other is UPSC Special Class Railway Apprentices' Examination. Approximately, 50 percent are recruited as the Special Class Railway Apprentices through the U.P.S.C. Exam. This examination is held once a year, generally in the month of July. Blank application forms and other particulars are published in Employment News, generally in the month of February.

Union Public Service Commission

The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Written Examination on 07th October, 2007 for recruitment of Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Police Forces (CPF) viz. Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The date of holding the examination as mentioned above is liable to be changed at the discretion of the Commission.

Age Limits& Sex :
A candidate must have attained the age of 20 years and must not have attained the age of 25 years on 1st August, 2007 , i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1982 and not later than 1st August, 1987 .

Both Male and Female candidates are eligible for appointment to the post of Assistant Commandants in CRPF. However, for appointment to the post of Assistant Commandants in BSF, ITBP and SSB, only Male candidates are eligible.

Educational Qualifications :
A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree from recognised University or an equivalent qualification.

Candidates who are studying in final year Degree Course and have yet to pass final year degree examination or equivalent examination can also apply for examination, but they will be required to submit proof of passing by the specified dates published in Commission's Notice for Examination.

How to Apply :

Candidates must apply In the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix-III of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs.20/- (Rupees twenty only). Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.

In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Forms from the designated HPOs/Pos, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC’s 'FORMS SUPPLY MONITORING CELL' over Telephone No.011-23389366/Fax No.011-23387310.

The Upper age limit is relaxable for candidates belonging to scheduled castes/scheduled tribes/ other backward classes and certain other categories.

Educational Qualification:

Post-graduate degree in Economics/ Applied Economics/ Busines Economics/ Econometrics and a candidate for the Indian Statistical must have obtained a Post-Graduate degree in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Applied Statistics from a recognised University or equivalent.

Candidates who are studying in final year Degree Course and have yet to pass final year degree examination or equivalent examination can also apply for examination, but they will be required to submit proof of passing by the specified dates published in Commission's Notice for Examination.

Duration of Examination : 03 Days

Physical Standards :

Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2007 as per Regulations.

How to Apply :

This application form along with an Information Brochure containing general instructions for filling up the form, an acknowledgement card and an envelope for sending the application is obtainable from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices throughout the country and may be purchased against cash payment of Rs.20/-

Candidates must use only the form supplied with the Information Brochure. Form should be purchased from the designated Post Offices only and not from any other agency. Candidates must not use photocopy/ reproduction/ unauthorisedly printed copy of the Form. This will entail rejection. Each form can be used only once and for only one examination.

Introduction

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) holds a competitive Examination named Geologists Examination for recruitment to the posts of

Category I (i) Geologist (Junior), Group A (ii) Assistant Geologist, Group B in the Geological Survey of India.

Category II (i) Jr. Hydrogeologist, Group A (ii) Assistant Hydrogeologist, Group B in the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) at selected centres in India.
