Selection Commission shall hold a Combined Main Examination for candidates who have been declared qualified in the Preliminary Examination. The nationality, age, qualifications, physical/medical standards are same as mentioned in Preliminary Examination details.

The Main Examination will consist of the following two papers :

Optional Subjects and Syllabus
PAPER I PART (A) GENERAL ENGLISH: In addition to testing of the candidate's understanding of the English Language and its correct usage, his writing ability would also be tested. Questions on paragraph writing/report writing, etc., may be included.

PART (B) GENERAL STUDIES: Questions in this paper will cover General Awareness as well as General Intelligence and Reasoning Ability.

(A) GENERAL INTELLIGENCE: It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component would include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement-conclusion, syllogistic reasoning, etc.

(b) General Awareness: Questions In This Component Will Be Aimed At Testing The Candidate's General Awareness Of The Environment Around Him And Its Application To Society. Questions Will Also Be Designed To Test Knowledge Of Current Events And Of Such Matters Of Everyday Observations And Experience In Their Scientific Aspect As May Be Expected Of Any Educated Person. The Test Will Also Include Questions Relating To India And Its Neighbouring Countries Especially Pertaining To History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity, Scientific Research, Etc. This Questions Will Be Such That They Do Not Require A, special Study of Any Discipline.

PAPER II ARITHMETIC: This paper will include questions on problems relating to number systems, computation of whole numbers, decimals and fractions and relationships between numbers, fundamental arithmetical operations, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, use of tables and graphs, menstruation, time and distance, ratio and time, etc.

Other Information Regarding Plan of Examination:
NOTE: 1. The Question Papers for the Main Examination will be of Conventional Type.

2. Candidates will have the option to Answer Paper I Part (b), and Paper II, either in Hindi or in English. Medium opted in the Preliminary Examination (Hindi or English) will remain the same in the Main Examination.

3. The Commission will have full discretion to fix separate qualifying marks in each of the papers and in the aggregate of all the papers separately for each Category of candidates (viz. UR/SC/ST/OBC/PH/Ex-S). Only those candidates who qualify in all the papers as well as in the aggregate would be eligible to be considered for Selection.

GENERAL 1NSTRUCTIONS
I. Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In no circumstances will
they be allowed the help of a scribe to write the answers or them.

II. In the question papers, wherever necessary, questions involving numeral, the
Metric system of weights and measures only will be set.

III. Candidates are not use calculators in the Main Examination. They should not therefore, bring the same inside the Examination Hall.

IV. Marks will not be allotted for mere superficial knowledge.

V. Credit will be given for orderly, effective and exact expression combined with due economy of words in subjects of the Examination.

FOR ASSISTANT GRADE: Candidates will be required to pass a test in typewriting at a minimum speed of 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi within a period of two years from the date of appointment to the Assistant Grade. In the event of their failure to pass the test within the prescribed period, they shall not be entitled to draw any further increments in the Assistant's Grade until they pass such test or are exempted from this requirement under a special or general order; and on passing or being exempted from the test, their pay shall be prefixed, i.e., if their increments had not been withheld but no arrears of pay shall be allowed for the period for which the increments had been withheld.

JOB REQUIREMENTS OF CYPHER ASSISTANT: Cypher duties for which proficiency in Typewriting Test and Cypher is essential, training for Cypher Proficiency Test would he imparted by the Ministry of External Affairs after selection of the candidates. Profession of English Typewriting skill at a speed of 30 words per minute is mandatory for Cypher Assistant. Therefore, the candidates to be appointed to the post of Cypher Assistant in the Ministry of External Affairs would be required to pass the English Typewriting Test at a speed of 30 words per minute within the period of probation, failing which they would be liable to be discharged from service.

Terms and Conditions After the Exam and the Interview wherever applicable, the Commission will draw up All India merit list on the basis of the aggregate marks finally awarded to each candidate and in that order so many candidates as are found by the Commission to be qualified shall be recommended for appointment upto the number of unreserved vacancies available.

The Commission will recommend the candidates in the merit list on the basis of the aggregate marks and option given by the candidates in the Application Form depending on the number of vacancies available. Once the candidate has been given first available preference, he will not be considered for the other options. However, Commission reserves the right to nominate the candidate to any post based on his merit position.

Candidates appointed to posts in Categories of Auditors in the Offices of Accountant General (Audit) in various States and other Audit and Account Offices under the C& AG and in the Categories of Jr. Accountants in the various departmentalized Account Offices in Central Ministries/Departments would be required to pass a departmental combinatory examination within a prescribed period/number of chances failing which. they would be liable to be discharged from service.

Persons appointed as Divisional Accountants (Probationer) would have to pass the departmental examination called Divisional Accountant Grade Examination within a period of 2 years. Services of persons who fail to pass this examination within the stipulated period of 2 years are liable to be terminated.

How to Apply
The notification for Main Examination is published in Employment News/Rozgar Sangrah in the month of November. The candidates may utilize in original the form published in Employment News. or use printed Application Form if available from private agencies. as long as the format of Application Form is exactly the same as published in the advertisement.

Other Information
NOTE: Candidates are required to submit along with their application certificates in support of their claims regarding age educational qualifications. SC/ST/OBC and disability etc. for verification. The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions for admission to the examination. Their admission at all the stages of examination for which they are admitted by the Commission viz. Preliminary Examination. Main (Written) Examination and Interview Test. will be purely provisional subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. If on verification at any time before or after the Main (Written) Examination and Interview Test. it is found that they do not fulfil any of the eligibility conditions. Their candidature for the Examination will be cancelled by the Commission.

SELECTION OF CENTRE FOR MAIN EXAMINATION: Same as the candidate had applied for the Preliminary Examination.

MATRIC LEVEL COMBINED EXAMINATION - MAIN EXAMINATION

Staff Selection Commission holds a Combined Preliminary Examination in the month of May for selecting candidates for the Main Examinations for the following Recruitments:

I. Clerks Grade
II. Grade \'D\' Stenographers
III. Grade \'C\' Stenographers

The Recruitment to the above posts will be in the following groups of services/ offices:

(a) Group \'X\'
(b)Group\'Y\' (for Clerks and Steno \'D\' only)

The posts under Group\' X\'are in the Ministries/Departments of Central Govt and mainly located in Delhi. The posts under Group \'Y\' are mainly in subordinate and other offices of Central Govt located in different States/Union Territories.

Nationality As defined by the Constitution of India.

Age limit A candidate for this Examination must have attained the age of 18 years and must not have attained the age of 27 years as on 1 st August, of the year of examination. Upper age limit is relaxable as per prevailing rules.

Examination Fee Rs 50/- (Rupees Fifty only). No fee for SC/ST/PH/Ex-S. Fee concession is not admissible to sons and daughters of Ex-servicemen or to persons belonging to Other Backward Classes. Service Clerks in the last year of their colour service are not exempted from payment of fee. The candidates should pay the fee by means of Central Recruitment Fee Stamps. Fee can also be paid through Indian Postal Orders payable to \"STAFF SELECTION COMMISSION at the post office indicated. The Postal Orders should be Crossed \"A/C Payee only\" and should be valid for at least six months. IPOs should not have been purchased prior to the date of publication of the advertisement for this examination. Candidates should write their name and address on the Indian Postal Orders in block capital letters at the specified space.

Centre of Examination A candidate must select only one of the Centres mentioned for the Written Examination. No change in Centre shall be allowed. As no change of Centre of examination will be allowed, candidates should select the Centre for the examination carefully and indicate the same correctly in their applications.

NOTE: Candidates may note that application(s) for Main (Written) examination(s) would be required to be sent to the office of the same Regional Director/Dry Regional Director/Dy Director where they apply for the Preliminary Examination.

MAIN EXAMINATIONS
The scheme(s)for the Main Examinations is advertised separately. The Main examinations will be of descriptive type. The decision of the Commission as to the eligibility or otherwise of a candidate for admission to the examination shall be final. No candidate will be admitted to the examination unless he holds certificate of admission from the Commission. The candidate must take the examination at the jotted Centre of examination.

TYPEWRITING TEST/SHORTHAND TEST The candidates who qualify the Main exam(s) will have to undergo a Typewriting test/Stenography Test as the case may be. Details of the Typewriting Test/ Stenography Test will be published in the Notice of the Main examination(s).

2. General Studies: Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History , Culture, Geography, Economic Scene. General Polity, Scientific research, etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.


Paper-II Essay: Candidates will be required to write essay on two topics. They will be expected to keep closely to the subject of the essay, to arrange their ideas in orderly ,fashion and to write concisely. Credit will be given for effective and exact expression. TYPEWRITING TEST/SHORTHAND TEST:
The candidates who qualify the Main Examination(s) will have to undergo a typewriting test/Stenography test as the case may be. Details of the Typewriting Test/Stenography Test are as below:

TYPEWRITING TEST (FOR THE POSTS OF CLERKS ONLY):
Typewriting Test is a qualifying test only. Candidates are allowed to take the typewriting test either in Hindi (Devanagrik Script) or English. Candidates shall have to bring their own typewriter, for the test. Use of electronic typewriter is not allowed in typewriting test. Only those candidates who secure in the written (Main) Examination such minimum qualifying marks as may be fixed by the Commission in their discretion will be eligible to be considered for appearing in the Typewriting Test and only such of them as qualify at the Typewriting Test at the prescribed speed will be eligible for being recommended for appointment upto the number of vacancies available. The typewriting test will be a qualifying test only. The typewriting test will consist of one paper on running matter of 10 minutes duration. Only those candidates who qualify in the Main Exemption and attain minimum qualifying marks at the Main Examination as may be fixed by the Commission in their discretion, will be eligible to take the typewriting test, i.e., Part-III of the Examination.

NOTE:
1) A candidate who claims to be permanently unfit to pass the typewriting test because of a physical disability may with the prior approval of the Chairman, Staff Selection Commission, be exempted from the requirement of appearing and qualifying at such test, provided such a candidate submits a certificate in the prescribed form to the Commission from the competent medical authority, i. e. , the Civil Surgeon declaring him/her to be permanently unfit to pass the Typewriting Test because of the physical disability. This Certificate will have to be submitted at the time of Appling for Main Examination / Typewriting Test.

2) A candidate who would submit medical certificate from the Medical Board attached to VRC for PH persons or from the Medical Board attached to special Employment exchange for PH persons, his/her claim would be accepted straightaway, However, a candidate who would submit Medical certificate from Civil/Orthopedic Surgeon, his/her case would be referred to Medical Board attached to VRC/Special Employment Exchange for PH for Clearance.

STENOGRAPHY TEST (a) FOR GRADE 'D' STENOGRAPHERS: Shorthand Test in Hindi or in English 300. Marks for those who qualify at the Main Examination.

SCHEME OF SHORTHAND TEST: The candidate will be given one dictation test in English or in Hindi at the speed of 80 words per minute for 10 minutes. The candidates who opt to take the shorthand test in English will be required to transcribe the matter in 65 minutes and the candidates who opt to take the test in Hindi will be required to transcribe the matter in 75 minutes.

1. Candidates will be required to transcribe their shorthand notes on typewriters and for this purpose they will be required to bring their own typewriters with them

2. Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment.

3. Second chance for stenography test will not be given to those candidates whose typewriters go out of order during the currency of test.

(b) For Grade 'C' Stenography: The Shorthand Test in English will comprise one dictation test, at 100 words per minute for ten minutes, which the candidates will be required to transcribe in 50 minutes.

The Shorthand tests in Hindi will comprise one dictation tests 100 words per minute for 10 minutes which the candidates will be required to transcribe in 65 minutes.

NOTE: The candidates who opt for Hindi/English in General Studies and Essay will have to take the Skill Test in Hindi/English as the case may be. Interviews Test/ Personality Test
After the examination and the skill test, the commission will draw up All India merit list for each exam on the basis of the aggregate marks finally awarded to each candidate and in that order so many candidates as are found by the Commission to be qualified shall be recommended for appointment upto the number of unreserved vacancies available.

The Commission will recommend the candidates in the merit list on the basis of the aggregate marks and option given by the candidate in Application Form depurating on the number of vacancies available. Once the candidate has been given first available preference, he will not be considered for other options. However, Commission reserves the right to nominate the candidate to any post based on his merit position. As the result of this recruitment is on All-India merit basis, no request for change of zone/posting will be entertained by the Commission. Provided that candidates belonging to the PH categories or Ex-S may, to the extent the number of vacancies reserved for them cannot be filled on the basis of general standards, be recommended at relaxed standards to make up for the deficiency in the reserved quota subject to fitness of such candidates for selection irrespective of their ranks in the order of merit.

OBC candidates, who are found to be qualified at the examination may be recommended for appointment by the Commission, by going down the merit list for OBCs to the extent of vacancies reserved for them subject to the fulfillment of the basic minimum standards prescribed by the Commission.

SC or ST candidates may be the extent of the number of vacancies reserved for the SC/ST be recommended by the Commission by a relaxed standard, subject to the fitness of these candidates for selection to the service.

Investigators Examination
Top
This examination is held once a year for recruitment of Investigators in National Sample Organisation (Field Operation Division), Ministry of Planning, all over the country.

Age limit
20 to 28 years on January 1 / August of the year of examination. Upper age limit relaxable for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and such other categories of persons as may from time to time be notified in this behalf by the Government of India to the extent and subject to the conditions notified in respect of each category.

Minimum Educational Qualification
ESSENTIAL: Degree with Mathematics or , Statistics or Economics as a subject from a recognised University or equivalent.

DESIRABLE:
(a) Ability to read and write and speak the State language;
(b) Knowledge of other regional languages;
(c) Capability to undertake strenuous out-door work.

Examination Fee Rs 50/-. No fee for SC/ST/Ex-S.

Transmission Executive Examination

This examination is held for recruitment to the posts of Transmission Executives (General and Production) at various stations of All India Radio/Doordarshan. This examination may be held after the gap of several years.

Age limit
18 to 30 years as on specified date of the year in which examination is held. Upper age limit is relaxable for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Physical) Handicapped, etc., as per rules.

General Note about Examination Scheme Part I-Written Examination -400 Marks
Part II-Personality Test -100 Marks
The Written Exam will consist of the following Tests:

Subjects - General Intelligence - 50 Questions
Marks - 100 Marks

2. paper II
Subjects - English Language - 50 Questions
Marks - 100 Marks

3. paper III
Subjects - General Awareness with special reference to cultural heritage of India - 100 Questions

Optional Subjects and Syllabus
GENERAL INTELLIGENCE: The questions in this subject will be based on understanding instructions, determining relationships, similarities, relevance, drawing conclusions and similar intellectual functions.

GENERAL AWARENESS: Questions in this subject will be aimed at testing candidate's knowledge of the environment around him. They will cover questions on General Science, History, Geography, Economics, Constitution of India and Current Events. Questions in these subjects will be set mainly with particular reference to India and its cultural heritage.

ENGLISH LANGNAGE: Questions in this subject will be set to assess the knowledge of English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, etc. There will also be questions on comprehension of passage(s).

NOTE: The questions will be of Objective type. Candidates would have to attain
minimum qualifying marks, as may be fixed by the Commission.

Interivews Test/ Personality Test The Personality Test will be held at the Commission's Regional Offices only.

Senior Observers Examination
Top
This examination is held by the Staff Selection Commission for recruitment of Senior Observers in the various Meteorological Centres of India Meteorological Department, throughout the country. It is not certain that this examination will be held every year.

Age limit
20 to 25 years on specified date of the year of examination. Upper age limit is relaxable for certain other categories of persons as per Government orders in force. Age concession is not admissible to the sons/daughters of Ex-Servicemen and persons belonging to OBCs.

Minimum Educational Qualification BSc of a recognised University with Physics as one of the subjects.

General Note about Examination Scheme The examination will consist of the following two objective-type question papers:

HINDI TRANSLATORS EXAMINATION
Top
Staff Selection Commission holds a combined examination for making recruitment to the posts of Junior Hindi Translators in the Ministries/Departments/Offices of the Govt of India allover the country in the following two Categories:

Category A:
(a) Hindi Translators in the Central Secretariat Official Language Service.

(b) Junior Hindi Translators in Armed Forces Headquarters Service.

Category B:
Junior Hindi Translators in the Subordinate Offices like the All India Radio,
Doordarshan Kendras, Central Excise, Income Tax, etc.

Age limit
Not exceeding 30 years as on January/August 1 of the year of examination. Relaxation in upper age limit is as per rules available.

Minimum Educational Qualification
Minimum Educational Qualifications (as on specified date of the year of the examination): Master's Degree in Hindi/English, with English/Hindi as a compulsory and elective subject at the degree level; OR Bachelor's degree with Hindi and English as main subjects (which includes the term compulsory and elective).

Other Releated Information Regarding Eligibility Conditions

NOTE:

(i) Most of the Posts in Category (A) are in the Central Govt Offices located at Delhi whereas the posts in Category (B) are in the Subordinate Offices spread all over the country.

(ii) All posts have All-India Service liability.

NOTE: Those candidates who have passed BA (Hons) on English/Hindi with Hindi/ English as subsidiary/MIL subject are eligible for the post for Jr. Hindi Translators.

Examination Fee
Rs 50/-. No fee for SC/ST/PH/Ex-S. The fee is payable by means of 'Central Recruitment Fee Stamps'. Fee can also be paid through Crossed Indian Postal Orders.

Other Information Regarding Plan of Examination: Note I: There will be no viva-voce test.

NOTE II: All candidates have to appear in both the papers mentioned above.

NOTE III: The Commission have the discretion to fix the minimum qualifying standard in each of the papers of the Written Examination for General, SC and ST , Ex-S, PH and departmental candidates.

NOTE IV : Paper II of Written Examination shall be evaluated of only those candidates who attain a minimum qualifying standard in Paper I as may be fixed at the discretion of the Commission.

Information Assistants Examination

The Commission holds a combined competitive Written Examination for the posts of Information Assistants in the Govt of India Tourist Offices, Dept of Tourism, Govt of India.

Age limit 21 to 25 years (upper age limit is 28 years for OBC and 30 years for SC/ST).

Minimum Educational Qualification
(i) Degree.
(ii) General Knowledge and familiarity with places of Tourist interest in India.
(iii) Knowledge of various places of Indian History, Architecture both ancient and modern.

DESIRED: Knowledge of specified foreign language other than English and experience in travel or publicity firm.

Interviews Test/ Personality Test Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their educational qualifications, academic records, percentage of marks, etc. may be required to undergo a Written Proficiency Test. PHYSICAL TESTS:
FOR MALES: Walking-1600 metres in 15 minutes. Cycling - 8 krns in 30 minute.

FOR FEMALES: Walking -l km in 20 minutes. Cycling-3 kms in 25 minutes.

Physical Standards
FOR MALES: Height: 157.5 cms (Relaxable by 5 cms for Garhwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas and STs). Chest: 81 cms (fully expanded with minimum expansion of 5 cms).
