The Central Board of Secondary Education invites applications
for the CBSE Merit Scholarship Scheme for Single Girl Child (single

Scholarship details
For CBSE Merit Scholarship Scheme for Class
XI and XII
Eligibility
You will be considered if you
have scored a minimum overall aggregate of 60 percent in the Class
X examination conducted by the CBSE in 2006.
You must be currently studying in a CBSE affiliated school where
the tuition fee was not more than Rs 1,000 per month during the
year 2005-2006.
Value: Rs 500 per month
Duration: Two years.
For Professional Studies (Medical & Engineering)
Eligibility
You will be considered if you are on the
merit list of the AIPMT and AIEEE examinations conducted by the
CBSE board.
You must be pursuing professional course in medicine/ engineering
in any central university/ institution controlled or aided by
the Central government.

MAHE Tie-up
for Dual Course
A spring software students can now juggle with more than one course
as the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has tie up with
Technical University, Eindhoven, Netherlands, for a dual course.
The tie-up would
allow students to obtain a dual degree of M.S. in Software Engineering
from MAHE and M.Sc. Computer Science and Engineering from the
university in the Netherlands.
Scholarships
About 20 scholarships
would be offered by companies such as Philips, Cap Gemini, Logica
CMG and Cordys. The Scholarships would cover course fees and living
expenses in both the countries.
Philips has identified MAHE as one of the Universities for the
scholarship programme in India where the postgraduate students
of embedded systems and computer science would be eligible for
the scholarships.
Students would be chosen based on the undergraduate academic performance
and an interview by Philips.
Stipend
The selected candidate
would get a stipend of Rs. 7, 000 per month during the first year
of their study at MAHE and Rs. 15,000 per month in the next year
during the project in Philips.

The University Grants
Commission invites application for the award of Junior Research
Fellowship in Engineering and Technology for the year 2006-2007
from the persons who have a Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy
with at least 55% marks from a recognized University. 22.5% Research
Fellowships are reserved for SC/ST candidates.
The objective to
this award is to provide an opportunity to research scholars to
undertake advanced study and research in Engineering and Technology
and Agricultural Engineering leading to Ph.D. Subjects like Geology,
Geophysics and Mathematics are not considered under this Scheme.
The candidates should
not be more than 40 years of age as on Ist July of the year of
award relax-able by five years for Women and SC/ST candidates.
The total duration of the fellowship is five years. - The value
of the Junior Research Fellowship shall be Rs. 8,000/-p.m. for
the first two years and Rs. 10,000/-p.m. for the subsequent years
with an annual contingency grant of Rs. 12,000/-p.a. for the first
two years & Rs. 25,000/-p.a for subsequent years.

duly forwarded through the University/Institution where the fellow

The Department of
Science and Technology, Government of India, offers attractive
fellowships (Rs.2000/- to Rs.5000/- p.m) and contingency grants
to students studying in Basic Sciences, Engineering or Medicine.
Selection to the programme takes into account academic excellence
and demonstrated interest in research; Selection is open to Indian
nationals studying in India.
Eligibility:
Basic Sciences:
Stream SA: Students joining in XI Standard (Science Subjects)
during the academic year 2006-2007 and having secured a minimum
of 75% (65% for SC/ST) marks aggregate in Mathematics and Science
subjects in XII Standard Board Examination.

General:
Each stream has its own application form. Students who wish to
apply for more than on stream should submit separate applications.

Application forms may be downloaded from the KVPY website. Those
who are unable to do so, may request for Hard Copy.
Hard copy of the application form can be obtained from KVPY on
request by sending a processing fee of Rs. 100/- (Rs. 25/- for
SC/ST) by means of DD/IPO drawn in favor of SID A/c KYPY payable
at Banglore, clearly indicating the stream (SA.SB, SP, EA, EB,
MA) on the envelope.
The SC/ST - candidates should provide a copy of the caste certificate
issued by the competent authority in the prescribed proforma.

Red Hat and IIT-Bombay are bringing new ways for Indian students
to acquire open source experience.
The company has launched
the Red Hat Scholarships 2006-2007 programme, which will operate
under the eKALAVYA programme set up by Kanwal Rekhi School of
IT, IIT-Bombay. This is the third consecutive year of operation
for the Red Hat Scholarships programme. It helps thousands of
students looking for guidance on software development projects
they do as part of their academic requirements.
The two organisations
have set up a collaborative programme where students can sign
up online for open source projects, seek advice from mentors in
the open source community, find list of projects they can participate
in, download open source software and get information on programming
standards and guidelines.
About Rs.20 lakhs
will go toward prizes for students and mentors participating in

Scholarships
For Diaspora Children To Study In Higher Technical & Non-Technical
Institutes In India
The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) is introducing
scholarships for Diaspora children to study in higher technical
and non-technical institutes in India in the academic session
2006-07.
A senior official
of the ministry said that the scholarship programme was open to
100 students from a list of select countries. Educational Consultants
Indian Ltd. (Ed.CIL) will act as the nodal agency.
The programme is
open to students from Bahrain, Fiji, Guyana, Hong Kong Indonesia,
Jamaica, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Myanmar, Oman, Qatar, Reunion
Island, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Surinam, Tanzania,
Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
The scholarships
will be offered in only those institutes with which Ed.CIL has
a memorandum of understanding.
Eligibility
for Scholarships For Diaspora Children:
The official said
a budget of Rs.1 crore (Rs.10 million) had been earmarked in the
first year for the programme. The number of scholarships will
be increased annually till it reaches 350.
The scholarships will be
applicable for professional and general courses (except medical
and other related courses).
Applicants
will have to pay processing charges to Ed.Cil - $200 per student
for non-technical courses (humanities streams) and $350 per student
for technical courses (which include engineering, management and
hospitality).
The
applicants should be from the age group of 17-21 years and should
have passed senior secondary (10+2) or equivalent from any educational
system recognised by the Association of Indian Universities with
the requisite subjects.
They
should have secured at least 60 percent aggregate marks or 6.75
cumulative grade point average (CGPA) on a scale of 10.
Selection Process:
Selection will be
based on a common written examination to be held April 30, the
venues and timings of which will be announced by the Indian missions
in the respective countries.

accommodation will have to be submitted while claiming).
Guidelines Governing The Fellowship
The individual scientist
availing this Fellowship would be addressed as an ICMR International
Fellow (ICMR-IF).
Fellowship will be awarded each year with the duration ranging
from 3 to 6 months to young scientists and for 10-15 days to senior
scientists depending on the needs of the approved programme.
The Young Scientists will be entitled to a monthly stipend of
US $1800 and a contingency grant of Rs.10,000/- (which includes
the cost of visa, airport tax, taxi charges, excess luggage charges,
overseas mediclaim insurance expenses, bank commission charges,
expenses on local journeys).
The Senior Scientists will be entitled to US $150 per day including
accommodation subject to a maximum of US $ 1800 for entire duration
of stay (original receipt for hotel accommodation will have to
be submitted while claiming).
The Fellow will be entitled to air travel (both ways) in economy
class (excursion fare) by Air India / Indian Airlines by the shortest
route from the place of duty.
Other airlines should not be made use of except in sectors where
Air India / Indian Airlines does not operate.
For Senior Fellows expenses on visa charges, airport tax and overseas
mediclaim insurance will be reimbursed as per actual.
Parent institute shall continue to pay salary and other benefits
such as leave, medical gratuity, GPF, pension as applicable to
the fellow candidate while he/ she is away for the fellowship.
No liability on any of these accounts will be borne by ICMR.
The Young Fellow will be required to will/execute a legal/service
bond of Rs.5.00 lakhs to the parent Institute that he/she belongs
to and will serve the parent Indian Institute for a period of
at least 3 years after return from International fellowship.
If the Young Fellow does not return to India or gets a job overseas
on completion of the fellowship or fails to fulfill any of the
above requirements, he/she will be liable to reimburse the whole
of the expenditure incurred during the fellowship period, including
the airfare, from the guarantees in one lump sum within one month
of the completion of the term of the Fellowship and remit it to
ICMR.
The Fellow should submit a final work report (in the prescribed
format) on the research and training activities undertaken in
the foreign Laboratory/Institute during the fellowship period.
This should be submitted within 2 months of his/her return.
A progress report (in the prescribed format) evaluating the performance
of the Young fellow from the host institution should also be submitted.
The fellowship should begin within the same financial year &
must be completed by 31st March of the next year.
The candidate should correspond with the International Institute/Laboratory
to be visited for their placement. A letter of acceptance from
the Institute to be visited overseas is required to be produced
along with the application form.
Total claim bills on the budget head of fellowship should not
exceed the amount specified above.
Selection Criteria of ICMR International Fellowships:

The

Level Examination For The Award Of Junior Research Fellowships
(JRF)
Junior Research Fellowships-JPF
Indian Council of
Medical Research(ICMR) JRF Examination is the first step in the
process of admission to the Ph.D/Research Programme through council's
support. Test for ICMR JRF fellowship are conducted at the five
centres viz.Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai once
a year.The award of JRF is made on merit basis by holding an entrance
examination after issuing a countrywide admission notice.The admission
notice is published in leading English Newspapers of India usually
during March/April and also on the website. The entrance examination
is usually held in the first week of July.
ICMR holds a national
level examination for determining the eligibility of Indian National
candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF)
through Indian Council of Medical Research. The award of Junior
Research Fellowship to the successful eligible candidates will
depend on their finding placement in a medical college / hospital
/ university / national laboratory / institution of higher learning
and research as applicable.
A total of 100 Fellowships
would be awarded. Eighty Fellowships would be awarded for work
in the field of biomedical sciences with emphasis on Life Sciences
(like microbiology, physiology, molecular biology, genetics, human
nutrition, human biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, biochemistry,
biophysics, immunology, zoology, botany, veterinary sciences,
bio-informatics etc.). Twenty Fellowships would be awarded for
work with emphasis on Social sciences like psychology, sociology,
home science, statistics, environmental sciences, anthropology
and social work.
Two
separate merit lists, one comprising the candidates qualifying
for life sciences and the second for those candidates qualifying
for social sciences, will be made on the basis of their performance
in the above test.
The
candidates selected for the JRF programme of ICMR would be permitted
to enroll themselves for the Ph.D. programme of any University
recognized by the UGC/MCI. However, the JRF programme would not
have any connection with the Ph.D. programme. The validity of
fellowship awarded to a candidate will be six months.
Another 100 candidates would be selected for consideration for
positions of JRF under various research schemes of ICMR (subject
to fulfilling the conditions for appointment under the schemes)
for the duration of that scheme. These JRFs would also be permitted
to complete Ph.D. while working in the scheme, if enrolled.The
validity of result will be two years for placement in ICMR funded
projects.
SC/ST/OBC/Physically
Handicapped (PH) applicants will be given such special consideration
as per policy guidelines.Candidates qualifying for the award of
JRF will receive fellowship from ICMR.
Duration
and Emoluments of Junior Research Fellowships:
The value of the fellowship is at
present Rs.8000/- (Rupees Eight thousand only)Per month. It will
be revised from time to time as decided by the ICMR.
The duration of fellowship will initially
be limited till three years carrying a monthly stipend of Rs.8000/-
and an annual contingency grant up to Rs.7,500/- per annum. The
progress of research work would be evaluated annually through
annual progress reports. On completion of two years as JRF the
stipend of a fellow may be increased to Rs.9,000/- p.m. for 3rd
year on the basis of assessment of candidate's research progress
/ achievements. Upon such a recommendation, the fellow will be
called SRF. In the event of the Committee not recommending up
gradation, the fellow will continue as JRF with a stipend of Rs.8000/-
per month for the 3rd year or his/her fellowship may be terminated
depending on the decision of the Committee. The duration as SRF
may be for a maximum duration of 2 years. Thus, the total tenure
as JRF plus SRF shall not exceed 4 (four) years.
The successful candidates would be
notified by post and notice published in Employment Newspaper.

Joining time: Selected
candidates must join their respective course on the prescribed
date as indicated in their admission letter. The selection of
those who fail to join by the specified date shall automatically
stand cancelled.

Educational
Qualification for Junior Research Fellowships:
M.Sc/M.A. or equivalent
degree with minimum 55% marks for General/OBC Candidates and 50%
for the SC/ST & physically handicapped candidates in the subjects
mentioned under the head method of selection.
Age Limit
for Junior Research Fellowships:
The age limit for
admission to the eligibility test is 28 years (upper age limit
relaxable up to 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST,
physically handicapped (PH) and female candidates, 3 years in
the case of OBC category.

selection for Junior Research Fellowships:
Scheme of
Test for Junior Research Fellowships:
The
test will consist of one paper of 2 hours duration. The paper
will consist of 2 Sections. The Aptitude Section (Section A) will
have 50 questions on (i) scientific phenomenon in everyday life;
(ii) general knowledge in sciences; and (iii) common statistics.
All these questions would be compulsory with each question carrying
1 mark. The subject Specific Section (Section B & C) would
pertain to (B) Life Sciences and (C) Social Science. The candidate
may attempt questions in either of the two areas. Each area of
section B & C would have 100 questions and the candidate may
attempt any 75 questions in the predesigned area of Section B
or C. Candidates are required to indicate the option for Section
B or C in the application form too.
Each question carries one mark. Negative
marking @ 0.25 will be made for each of the wrong answer. The
questions in both the sections would appear in English only.
The
final result will be based on aggregate of 55 % marks obtained
in both the sections for General category and OBC and 50% for
SC/ST and physically handicapped.
The
test will be held in the following streams: (1) Aptitude test
(common for all) (2) Life Sciences (3) Social Sciences. Subjects
covered under Life Sciences include microbiology, physiology,
molecular biology, genetics, human nutrition, human biology, biotechnology,
biochemistry, biophysics, immunology, zoology, botany, veterinary
science and bio-informatics. Subjects covered under Social Sciences
include psychology, sociology, home sciences, statistics, environmental
sciences, anthropology and social work.
Monitoring Mechanism:
The fellow shall
submit annual reports for 1st year and annual report thereafter
as per the prescribed standard proforma. The first annual report
should be submitted after 10 months from the date of commencement
of the fellowship (through the Guide along with his appraisal)
giving complete factual details of the research work done. Subsequent
annual reports as per the standard proforma should be submitted
through the Guide two months before completion of the fellowship
year.

Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship
The Elizabeth Neuffer IWMF Fund is named for 1998 IWMF Courage
in Journalism Award winner and Boston Globe correspondent who
was killed in Iraq in May 2003.
This programme, created
with Neuffer's family and friends, aims to perpetuate her memory
and advance her life's mission of promoting international understanding
of human rights and social justice.
One-woman journalist
will be selected to spend an academic year in a tailored programme,
with access to Boston-area universities as well as The Boston
Globe and The New York Times.
The flexible structure
of the programme will provide the fellow with opportunities to
pursue academic research and hone her reporting skills covering
topics related to human rights.
The fellow will also
have a key role in the Elizabeth Neuffer Forum, an annual programme
to be scheduled each May.
Expenses, including
airfare and housing, will be covered under the fellowship.
The fellowship winner
will be announced in May, and the fellowship will run from September
2006 to May 2007.

notice, once again intends to apprise all the eligible students

Child:
All the girl students, who are the only child of the parents,
may submit their "Letter of Acceptance" in prescribed
proforma if they fulfill any of the following conditions:
Secured a minimum
of 60% marks Class XII Examinations 2005 conducted by CBSE and
pursuing non-medical / non-engineering under graduate course in
a Central University or a State University or any University recognized
by the UGC.
Secured rank up to 2933(in AIPMT 2005 conducted by the CBSE) and
pursuing medical course in the Institutes participating in AIPMT
or in the Central Govt. controller or aided institution.
Secured rank up to 33447 (All India Rank in AIEE 2005 conducted
by the CBSE) and pursuing engineering course in the Institutes
participating in AIEEE or in the Central Govt. controlled or aided
institution.
In addition to the above, offer letters were sent by the Board
to other eligible students and the last date for submission of
requisite "Letter of Acceptance" was 30 November 2005.
The roll numbers of such students are displayed on the Board's
web site www.cbse.nic.in. However, those students who could not
submit their acceptance can submit their duly filled in "Letter
of Acceptance" by 7 January 2006. This is the last and final
chance for all such eligible students for consideration of the
scholarship.

The Trustees of K.C.Mahindra Education Trust offer interest-free
loan scholarships to Indian nationals for post-graduate studies
abroad in various fields.
Application are invited for the K.C.Mahindra Scholarships for
the year of 2006 fro advanced studies in Engineering, Natural
Sciences, Humanities, Medicine & Business Management including
the study of Military, Naval and Aviation Sciences.
The maximum amount
of Scholarship payable to any scholar shall not exceed Rs.95000/-.
Applicants for these scholarships are required to satisfy the

1. They must possess a FIRST CLASS degree or
an equivalent diploma from a recognized Indian university.
2. They must have secured admission or have applied
for admission in reputable foreign universities for courses commencing

The European Commission

Malaysia
Government Scholarships for 15 foreigners
As part of its efforts
to promote Malaysia as a regional education hub, the Government
will launch a programme to sponsor the crème de la crème
of foreign students to do their bachelor’s degrees here.
Under the programme,
15 students from countries in the southern hemisphere will be
given the opportunity to pursue degrees at some of the country’s
top private institutions of higher learning.
Higher Education
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shafie Salleh said their allowance and
tuition fees would be fully borne by the Government for the entire
duration of their degree.
The ministry is working
out the details of the programme, which the Cabinet approved two
weeks ago.
Shafie said it would
likely start next year.
"We want these students to become ambassadors of Malaysia
when they complete their degrees and return home.
"They will come
here and study in some of the best private institutions we have
to offer.
"At the same
time, it would strengthen relationships between Malaysia and other
countries," Shafie said at the International University College
of Technology’s convocation ceremony here.
Details on the programme
were still being worked out.
On another matter,
Shafie said the ministry was working with the Immigration Department
to extend the visas of foreign lecturers from six months to two
years.
This was part of
the Government’s efforts to attract more lecturers to teach
here and improve the quality of education in tertiary institutions.
He also said the
Home Affairs Ministry had agreed to develop identification cards
for foreign students. |

Nehru Scholarships for Artistic and Innovative Excellence
On the occasion of
Children’s Day on 14th November, 2005, the Ministry of Human
Resource Development announces ‘Chacha Nehru Scholarships
for Artistic and Innovative Excellence’ and ‘Chacha
Nehru Scholarships for Sports Talent’.

of these two scholarships are as below:
Chacha Nehru
Scholarships for Artistic and Innovative Excellence
The National Bal
Bhawan has instituted a system of honouring talented children
in different age groups through the Bal Shree Schemes. The Bal
Shree programme recognizes talent in the areas of Creative Performance,
Creative Arts, Creative Scientific Innovations and Creative Writings.
The National Bal
Bhawan makes a selection of creative children through activities
conducted at Local level by organizing two-day camps in which
eight children (2 in each stream) are identified at local level;
Zonal level by organizing three-day camps in which local experts,
specialists from North, East, West, Central, South-I and South-II
participate for selection of children; and National level by organizing
four-day camps from six zones in the country.
A panel of experts
and resource persons representing the four streams are identified
to observe and assess the creativity of children. On an average
150 children participate in the National level camp.
Under the new scheme
of Chacha Nehru Scholarships for Artistic & Innovative Excellence,
the National Council for Educational Research and Training will
provide scholarships of Rs.500/- per month to all children above
14 years who have been selected for participation in the National
Camps of the National Bal Bhawan under its Bal Shree Programme.
These children will
be provided the scholarships for four years of studies during
class IX to XII For creative children in age group 9-14 selected
for participation in National Camps, a one-time incentive of Rs.
5000/- will be provided by the National Bal Bhawan. |

of the scholarships is below:s
Chacha Nehru Scholarship for Sports Talent
The objective of
Chacha Nehru Scholarships for Sports Talent will be to identify
extraordinary talent among the students in sports and games.
The scheme will be
administered by Central Board of Secondary Education. The students
studying in class VIII onwards will be in the eligible zone for
consideration of their talent and the scholarship would be awarded
to them from the commencement of class IX for a period of 4 years
subject to fulfillment of other conditions.
However, if under
age category 16, some students are selected for their extraordinary
performance in sports, they will be given scholarship for remaining
period of their duration till the completion of class XII studies.
Scholarships of Rs.500
per month would be awarded by the Central Board of Secondary Education
in 14 disciplines in which CBSE organizes Inter School Sports
and Games Competitions under various age groups. Talented children
will be identified at the CBSE National level Competitions.
In individual sports
like Athletics, Badminton, Chess etc., all the individual Champions
would be eligible for Scholarships while in sports like Football,
Basketball, Hockey etc., talent will be identified by a Core Committee
of experienced sports persons. There will be 200 scholarships
under this Scheme. |

The British Chevening
India programme is open to Indian nationals with a valid Indian
passport. The age criteria for most programmes is 25 to 35 years
as on 30 November 2005 with a few exceptional programmes where

Seven Scholarships
The 2006 National
Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) Foundation Scholarship
Program is officially underway to award seven $2,500 scholarships
for the 2006/2007 school year, NAMA President and CEO Richard
Geerdes announced today. “Our Scholarship Program is growing
thanks to the generosity of our members, and NAMA is very proud
to be able to offer the gift of education to deserving students,”
Geerdes said in a prepared statement.
The program is open
to all undergraduate students who are a son/daughter/legal dependent
of an employee of a NAMA member company and must be sponsored
by that company, said LyNae Schleyer, NAMA director of education
and meeting services.
Students must be
a graduating high school senior or student enrolled full-time
in a college undergraduate program at an accredited college or
university. They also must maintain and verify a cumulative grade
point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.

HINDU-HITACHI SCHOLARSHIPS
In association with Hitachi Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, THE HINDU invites
applications for Scholarship for technical training in JAPAN.
The number of Scholarships will be three. The terms and conditions
are as follows:
1.
Candidates who must be Indian Citizens, schould not have completed
30 years of age on 31.03.2006 and should be in possession of the
minimum Degree of B.E., or B.Sc.,(Engg.) or its equivalent from
any recognised university. Candidates who have already had practical
experience in the branches for which training is proposed to be
given, will be given preference. Candidates with at least one
year's professional experience need apply. Those who were interviewed
with previous years for the Scholarships need not apply again.
2.The
Scholarships are tenable in Japan for principally six months commencing
about July 2006. Trainees may have general training in one of
the following product fields of Hitachi Ltd., (Hitachi) for Example(1)
Information & Telecommunication System (2) Power & Industrial
System (3) Digital Media, being subject to the convenience of
each of Hitachi's establishments.

Trainees shall be, during their training, under the supervision
and direction of Hitachi, which has full discretion on scope,mode,duration
and place of establishment of their training. Training will not
be available in the R&D activities of Hitachi. They will be
subject to the rules and regulations and the discipline of the
establishment to which they are posted.
4.
Selected trainees will be provided with return Economy Class air
passage. Arrangements will also be made for free Boarding and
Lodging for trainees in Japan, and to defray all expenses for
traveling in Japan which may be considered necessary for their
training. In addition, each trainee will be paid a monthly fixed
allowance to cover his personal expenses.
5.
Parents or guardians of selected candidates shall guarantee their

The central Board
of Secondary education (C.B.S.E.) an autonomous organization under
the Ministry of Human Resource development, Govt. of. India, has
started two new merit based scholarships for the students who
are appearing in the merit lists of the Professionals Examinational
Examination and Class - XII Public Examination conducted by the
board. The objective is to provide financial support to such meritorious
students to achieve excellence. This will enable the youth to
purse the courses of their choice and help in intellectual and
human resource development of the country.
The salient
features of the scholarships are:
CBSE Merit Scholarships
Scheme for Professional Studies (Medical & Engineering)
Total number:
500 per annum and 2000 per annum after four years.
Value:
Rs.1000/- per month.
Duration:
Four years subject to renewal on year - to - year basis.
Eligibility:
The candidates must be pursuing the professional course in medicine/
engineering in Central/ State Govt. controlled or aided institute/
college.
Selection
Criteria:
Self selective on the basis of merit lost of AIPMT and AIEEE conducted
by the CBSE.
CBSE Merit Scholarship
Scheme for Undergraduate Studies
Total number:
550 per annum and 1650 per annum after three years.
Value:
Rs.500/- per month
Duration:
Three years subject to renewal on year - to - year basis.
Eligibility:
The candidate must be pursuing the professional course in medicine/
engineering in Central/ State Govt. controlled or aided Institute/
College.
Selection
Criteria:
Self selective on the basis of merit lost of AIPMT and AIEEE conducted
by the CBSE.
Intimation
to the candidates:
For the current year
(2005) offer letters dispatched. Details are also available on
the Board's website www.cbse.nic.in
Provision
for single Girl Child:
A minimum of 5% of
the total number of scholarships available to such girl candidates,
who are the single child of the parents and are also appearing
in the merit list of AIPMT/ AIEEE 2005 (for professional Scholarship)
conducted by the CBSE.
Release of
Scholarship:
The candidates, including
eligible Single Girl Child, to submit their "offer of Acceptance"
in the prescribed proforma (also downloaded from the website).
The annual amount of the Scholarship to be released in one installment
directly to the Scholar's saving Bank account once the requisite
documents are received and verified by the Board.

must ensure that the "Offers of Acceptance" dually filled
in along with the requisite information and superscribing on the
envelope "CBSE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME" reach the Office

A student who is

of leaving the studies mid - way without completing the PG degree
will have to take prior approval from the UGC by submitting an
application along with justification through the concerned university.
The university/ college
institution will have to submit a certificate of completion of
the PG course in respect of each student availing this scholarship.
Procedure
for application:
Eligible students
who are pursuing postgraduate 1st year course in any of the above
mentioned fields in the current year, i.e., 2005 - 2006 may submit
their application for the above scholarship giving full details
like name, father's name, date of birth, permanent and postal
address, name of the undergraduate course, percentage of marks
obtained along with merit certificate, postgraduate course being
pursued etc. (with all relevant attested copies of documents),

INDIRA GANDHI SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR SINGLE GIRL CHILD
The University Grants
Commission, based on the recent initiative of MHRD, has introduced
a Post - Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child
with the purpose of supporting higher education through scholarship
to such girls who happen to be the only child in their families
and also to provide incentive for the parents to observe small
family norm.
Eligibility:
Any single girl child
of her parents will be eligible under the scheme. The scheme is
applicable to such a single girl child who has taken admission
in Master's degree programmes in any recognized university or
a Post Graduate College.
Duration
of Scholarships: 2 years
Number of Scholarships per year: 1200
Rate of Scholarship:
Rs.2000/- P.M. Besides, no tuition fees will be charged from such
girls should they decide to pursue their Master's degree in universities
& colleges covered under 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act.
Other Conditions:
A student who is
awarded the Post - Graduate scholarship will not be debarred from
accepting any other scholarship.
A student desirous
of leaving the studies mid - way without completing the PG degree
will have to take prior approval from the UGC by submitting an
application along with justification through the concerned university
any student who discontinuous the studies without prior approval
of the UGC will have to refund the whole amount and the concerned
institution will be responsible for this.
The university/ college
institution has to submit a certificate of completion of the PG
course in respect of each student availing this scholarship.
Documents

(a) Proof of admission to master's degree course in recognized
Indian University (b) An affidavit from the parents/ girl child
duly attested by the First class Magistrate/ Gazetted officer
mentioned that she is the only child in the family.
